EXHIBITIONS

2008/11 in France

During the famous yearly festival in France, Montier-en-Der, in 2008, SHAPE has shown an exhibition of images of the first expedition to Bonaire, made in February of the same year. The festival - always in the 3rd week of November - held its 12th edition and has become well known for its numerous beautiful exhibitions. In 2008 there were about 60 exhibitions at once. More than 30.000 visitors have visited the festival this year and in the same time also thousands of Cranes were in the region, scattering their sounds in the air all over the fields and villages. The nearby lake, Lac du Der, is a very important place for the migration of Cranes in Mid-Europe. Their sounds give the nature photo festival a very nice extra.

SHAPE of nature on Bonaire

The island Bonaire, part of the Dutch Caribbean, is situated about hundred kilometres from the coast of Venezuela.

The photographic expedition, which took place during February 2008, was intended to support the main local conservation organisation for the Dutch Antilles (DCNA) by giving them photos that combine high photographic and aesthetic qualities.

We believe that art, and good photography, can help to raise the public awareness. People's awareness is important, because the island is subject to a severe fragmentation of its natural regions, caused in particular by the expanding building industry.

Bonaire is well known for splendid underwater photography, but there has been little attention to the terrestial fauna and flora of the island. Nevertheless it is extremely rich and warrants to be known and preserved. With that in mind, we decided to make the island the subject of our first expedition.
