PHOTOGRAPHERS FOR CONSERVATION
Our international group of 5 nature photographers explored the landscape, the flowers, cacti and trees, the birds and other
creatures
of the Caribbean island Bonaire during a ten days expedition in February 2008. The island, situated 100 km north from the coast of Venezuela is famous as a paradise for diving and the most diverse underwater life has been photographed very well,
while the terrestrial life is less covered. This terrestial
nature was the goal of the expedition, to help the Dutch Caribbean Nature Alliance (DCNA) with photos combining high quality & aesthetic value. With the hope that beautiful photos make people sensitive to nature
conservation. This corresponds highly to our personal goals as photographers
for nature preservation.
As many other lovely islands Bonaire is under pressure due to the enormous increase of building
and tourism.
We have worked from the early morning to
midnight, with the help of local specialists, to explore the natural richness of Bonaire.
The image galleries of this website will give you an
impression of the beauties we found. We have seen a great diversity,
even in this short period, and we are sure that Bonaire has
much more secrets. We
are very thankful to Kalli De Meyer from DCNA, our partner on
Bonaire, and to our helpful friends 'in the field' form Stinapa
and The Mangrove Center. The main actors of the project:
Leendert van Driel / painter, initiator of SHAPE, host, Netherlands/Bonaire
Henkjan Kievit / photographer, co-founder of SHAPE, Netherlands
Christian König / photographer, France
Marjolijn Lopes Cardozo / photographer, Netherlands
Miro Zumrik / photographer, Slovakia
Rostislav Stach / photographer, Czech Republic
Kalli De Meyer / executive director of the Dutch Caribbean Nature Alliance, Bonaire
